A rockstar, in his jet-black attire, presiding over a meeting in a swanky conference room, is how Indian Cinema portrays management professionals. This is the MBA dream, chasing which thousands of aspiring students take the Common Admission Test (CAT) every year. These points are for those dream chasers and how they can stand out of the crowd:
1. Take a CAT diagnostic test
It is always necessary to know where you stand and where your strengths and weaknesses lie. For exams like CAT, people of different backgrounds take the test and analysing your position and preparing a study plan accordingly would surely lead you to success.
2. More practice and less theory
Going through the portions, one thing you will realize is that theory is limited. And for getting it stored in our database, a lot of practice is required. The theory is never the test in the exam but logic and speed are.
3. Mugging is not always wrong
CAT is not an exam where you need to be an idealist – all you need is a great score. When that is only requirement, use any legally allowed method to solve the questions correctly in least time. Knowing the logic behind a short-cut helps remember it, but if a question can be solved with just a 2 line step, why waste time?
4. Get adequate rest
If you’re tired, your brain is not as good at filtering out distractions and focusing on a particular task. It’s also a lot less efficient at remembering connections between ideas or concepts. Practice in accordance with the exam timings as it will get your human clock synchronized with the exams timings, making your body and mind more efficient and productive during those time.
5. Improve speed. Give timed tests.
With 100 questions in 180 minutes, one should work on speed as it requires a minimal time. Once you are done with the theory and example question, this should be your everyday quest till D-Day. This is one of the major reason why aspirants fail to have a shot at the IIMs, so never fall a victim for that.
These points could make you wear that MBA graduation cap. Work on the things you lack. You have got a long way to go if you score well in CAT.
